When they say spacing is a job best measured in weeks and months, they weren't kidding. In between design gigs, I've been returning to the lowercase of Simon Sans, and tweaking the overall spacing. There's so many potential letter combinations and kerning pairs to take into account, and I'm finally at a place where it's beginning to look a little more cohesive when typing out words, instead of a haphazard, mishmash of ill-timed letters.
I'm optimizing Simon Sans as a display face, 72pts and up, so the spacing is a little tight, but with a bit more elbow-grease, this will soon be ready to live out in the wild! Look for it soon.
