The Ghastling is now available online for your reading pleasure. Light a candle and pull the covers up tight, as this collection of macabre fiction is not for the faint of heart.
Ghosts are echoes of the past, so in our art direction we wanted the magazine to feel like a discovered artifact of nebulous origin, like something from history that has lingered. Typography plays an important role in conveying the right mood, so we assembled a collection of typefaces that are pitch-perfect choices for the era. The Ghastling masthead was hand-lettered, paying homage to old pulp mags like "Ghost Stories", and we created a display typeface for headlines which took inspiration from 19th century jobbing sans-serifs; something idiosyncratic and slightly distressed, like it had been worn down from years of use.
